Hurray for Social Workers - I agree with the anxieties expressed and the need to unbind from whatever it s that is causing the problems described in our institutes.

I agree with a lot here. But remember, this is a religious cult, not a rational professional organization. I have always favored the field being defined by INTEREST in psychoanalytic ideas, not levels of approval. However, I also think that what makes psychoanalysis unique is the amount of time and energy we put into the learning and practicing and discussing.

Nice article. Being tethered to the past (and I noticed you start by invoking Freud even as you describe his imitations) instead of learning from and discarding outdated theory and institutional practice is still at play. The tether prevents existential threat. Contemporary instituted independent from the IPA and APSA manage better but can be less rigorous. Thanks for describing the problem.
